Forbes Welcomes Basketball Legend Michael Jordan on Billionaires' List

In the new Billionaires List Forbes magazine released today, 290 newcomers joined the list, including basketball great, Michael Jordan, 52. He's now the 513th-richest person in the US with a net worth of an even $1.0 billion. Forbes report below;
The most famous rookie on the billionaires list? Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time and indisputably the best-paid athlete of all time. Most of his cash comes from Nike payouts on his iconic brand. The Jordan brand grossed an estimated $2.25 billion in 2013, earning his Airness some $90m. But his most valuable asset is his stake in the Charlotte Hornets, worth more than $500m. When ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bought the Los Angeles Clippers for a stunning $2 billion, values of all NBA teams skyrocketed, creating three new billionaires. Jordan’s old boss Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the Chicago Bulls, joined the list with a fortune of $1.3 billion, and Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander boosted his net worth to $1.6 billion.

Guess Highest Paid Mayor In Canada

NAHEED NENSHI

Michelle Butterfield | Huff
An automatic 3.8 per cent raise issued to Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi earlier this month has made him the highest paid mayor in Canada.

Nenshi is now paid just over $216,000 a year, reports The Calgary Sun, while members of city council make just over $115,000.

Nenshi and council's automatic pay raise comes a year after city council voted to freeze their salaries in 2014. An automatic pay raise in 2014 would have amounted to approximately 4.6 per cent.

Sorry, Dr. Dre, you’re not a billionaire.

In fact, no recording artists are billionaires, according to research firm Wealth-X’s list of the world’s richest musicians.

The iconic rapper and entrepreneur sold his headphone business, Beats Electronics, to Apple earlier this and declared himself hip-hop’s first billionaire.

But Wealth-X estimates Dre’s net worth at $650 million U.S., good enough to make him the world’s third-richest recording artist.

The top spot belongs to Madonna, with a net worth of $800 million.

And one Canadian made it onto the list: Celine Dion, whose $630-million fortune was good enough to rank her the fifth richest musician in the world. She's the only non-American or non-British person on the list.

Canada High Net Worth Individuals Getting Richer Faster Than US

Daniel Tencer | HuffPost
Canada is seeing its population of super-rich grow faster than the U.S., and Canada’s super-rich are getting faster than their American counterparts as well, at least this year.

That's according to the second annual Ultra World Wealth Report from UBS and Wealth-X, which says the number of “ultra high net worth” (UHNW) individuals in Canada swelled to 5,305 in 2014, up 6.5 per cent from the year before.

An “ultra high net worth” individual is defined as having $30 million U.S. in net worth or more, not including their primary residence.

“Despite generally mediocre macroeconomic indicators, such as slow growth in employment and GDP, Canada’s UHNW individuals have managed to capitalize on the gains seen by businesses in the natural resources industry this year,” the report said.

Overall, Canada ranks eighth in the world when it comes to the number of super-rich. The U.S., Germany and Japan are the top three, in that order.
