Dr Christian Jessen, the British TV doctor who presents Embarrassing Bodies, tonight goes undercover in an alarming documentary, testing various therapies which claim to 'rid' people of homosexuality.
 

In the Channel 4 documentary, Undercover Doctor: Cure Me I’m Gay, openly gay Dr Jessen explores the various controversial methods being deployed in the UK and US to ‘cure’ gay patients.

These include 'aversion therapy' in UK and 'gay rehab' in the US.

 

We see Dr Jessen given bottle of ipecac syrup to drink, to make him vomit for hours while looking at pictures of naked men and listening to tapes telling him he is ‘worthless,’ that being gay was evil and that he should want to have sex with women.

Oscar Pistorius's lawyer revealed today that the paralympian is planning to sell the house in which he killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, to enable him raise money for his legal fees which has been rapidly increasing since the commencement of his trial.

Reports say with all advertising deals closed up and none in sight, Oscar has been grappling with raising money to pay his legal team. He has since been selling off some of his other properties and some of his racehorses.

Canadian Citizenship Rules Face Broad Reform

The federal government will introduce several changes to Canada's citizenship rules after members of Parliament return to Ottawa next Monday following a six-week hiatus, says Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander.

In an interview with CBC News on Thursday, Alexander said the government will table a bill in the next session of Parliament that will see "the first comprehensive reform to the Citizenship Act in more than a generation​."

Air Canada Cancels Flights to Venezuela

Prior to the suspension, Air Canada operated three return flights a week between Toronto and Caracas.

 

Canada's largest airline announced Monday it has suspended flights to and from Venezuela capital Caracas as violent protests continue in the country.

"Due to ongoing civil unrest in Venezuela, Air Canada can no longer ensure the safety of its operation and has suspended flights to Caracas until further notice," said the airline in a statement.

Air Canada said its last flight departed Caracas on Sunday, March 16.

Russia's most wanted militant Doku Umarov is dead

Russia's most wanted man, Doku Umarov, is dead and has been replaced as the leader of an Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus, a website that sympathizes with the militants said on Tuesday.
Umarov's forces have claimed responsibility for several deadly bombings, including in Moscow. His death has been reported several times by the Kremlin-backed leader of the Chechnya region, but never before by Umarov's sympathizers.

The Kavkaz Centre website issued an obituary, calling Umarov a martyr who had "given 20 years of his life to the Jihad."

It did not say when or how he had died, but the simultaneous release of a video address by a militant introducing himself as Umarov's replacement indicated it may have been some time ago.

Australia finds Two potential bits of missing Malaysian plane wreckage

Two pieces of wreckage that are possibly from the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 - one estimated to be 78ft in size - have been found to the west of Australia, it was announced yesterday. The debris was spotted on satellite imagery and a total of four aircraft have been sent to investigate the sighting, some 1553 miles off the coast of Perth.

Canada Expereince Lowest Job Vacancies in 3 Years

Canadian businesses had just under 200,000 vacancies in December, the lowest number since March 2011, when Statistics Canada began collecting job vacancy numbers.
The 199,700 job vacancies reported by Statistics Canada Tuesday represent a decline of 21,000 openings from the same month a year ago. Another way of looking at it is that there were 6.3 unemployed Canadians for every open job.

That compares to 5.7 per vacancy 12 months earlier. Critics say the data conflicts with reports from the government saying there is a labour shortage. 

Israel Builds Detention Center in the Desert for African Asylum seekers

The Isreali government has built a 9,000 person capacity detention facility in the southern desert where illegal African Immigrants would be detained. According to the Isreali government, the illegal immigrants who seek asylum in the country are becoming a burden to the govt and so they would be moved from the Shaharonim detention centre were they are presently being held to the new facility, a place human rights group have called a De-facto prison.

In this new facility which is situated in the desert, the immigrants will be locked down at night, and forced to check-in with the Israeli authorities three times per day. They will also be barred from working outside the centre. Continue...

The illegal immigrants who are more than 1000 would be moved into the facility without any trial or charge and held up in the facility until the Isreali government is able to repatriate them back to their countries.

New Changes in Immigration Law: Immigrants To Match Vacant Jobs Before Being Granted Visa

The federal government is looking to match skilled immigrants with unfilled jobs, in what it's calling a new "fast and flexible system of economic immigration" it intends to have in place in January 2015.

Under this new system, which the government has compared to "a dating site," Ottawa would act as chief matchmaker between immigrants who want to move to Canada for work and Canadian employers looking to fill job vacancies.

"We're looking for an economic match," said Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander in an interview with CBC News. Alexander is currently working to build an "expression of interest" system to manage applications for immigration to Canada.

Google beat Apple to launch wearable computers, magic wristwatch.

Google has beaten Apple to unveil its plans for wearable computers. The firm yesterday launched its 'Android Wear' project which will give developers a special version of Google phone and tablet software they can run on watches and other devices.

 

It showed off two concept watches, available in round  and square versions, that respond to voice commands and also have a touchscreen.

The firm also said it is working with LG, Samsung, Motorola and others to include the software in their watches.

'Watches are good at telling time, but imagine having useful, actionable information there precisely where you need it, automatically,' said David Singleton, Google's head of Android Engineering.

'We are working wit watch makers, fashion brands and chip companies.'
