Drake Hosting ESPY Awards 2014

ESPN announced Wednesday that Drake will host the 2014 ESPYs live on July 16th in Los Angeles.

The rapper revealed his new gig via Twitter with an altered photo of last year's Nothing Was the Same cover replacing himself as a child with a drawing of the award.

The Grammy-winning rapper is no stranger to sports. Last year, he signed on with NBA team Toronto Raptors to be a "Global Ambassador," helping to launch a Raptors clothing line, consulting on a redesign of the team's appearance and appearing in a commercial for the team.
More recently, the rapper threw his (ill-fated) support behind Kentucky in their loss to UConn in the championship game of the NCAA tournament and has been spotted hobnobbing with various NBA players.
"This is an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions—sports and performing," said the rapper in a statement.

"Drake is an unbelievably talented entertainer who truly has a passion for sports. We are thrilled to have him to host this year’s show," said Connor Schell, vice president, ESPN Films and Original Entertainment, in a statement.

According to TMZ, the rapper was "extremely passionate" about hosting the awards show and used his Saturday Night Live hosting gig earlier this year as ammunition to get the ESPYs job. The rapper had previously hosted the 2011 Juno Awards.

The ESPYs, launched in 1993, will take place at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre at 9 p.m. EST on ESPN, with the award show raising more than $1 million a year for cancer research.
