Recently, a former flower girl and ring-bearer were married in Minnesota 20 years after their first wedding experience.
Now Canada is about to get its own couple whose wedding will be their second trip down the aisle.
Engaged couple Misty Moneo and Spencer Pennington, both from Assiniboia, Sask., are in the process of planning their wedding. They’ll tell you that inklings of their romantic relationship began when the two were in the fifth grade.
"We were making Christmas decorations for the door decorating contest and he literally came up to me and said, 'I have a confession to make: I really like you,'" says Moneo.
The couple eventually began dating in 2006, when they were in Grade 10 – but they first shared the big day together more than two decades ago at Pennington’s aunt’s wedding.
Don’t ask them for the details, though.
"I don't remember anything," Pennington admits.
"I don't remember anything either, we were so little," says Moneo.
But the two are embracing the chance meeting that blossomed into a lifelong relationship, even opting to use a photo from that day for their wedding invitations.
They said they didn’t really think their story was special until the similar situation south of the border garnered so much attention.
"I guess we didn't really think it was unique until people started reacting to it," says Moneo. “Being from a small town, we thought it was something that was more normal than it was.”
And only time will tell if the same fate is in store for their niece, who will be their flower girl, and the ring-bearer they’ve still yet to select.
"Pressure's on to make a match, I guess,” laughs Moneo.
