World Must Condemn Use of Girls as Suicide Bombers by BokoHaram - Gordon Brown, UN

2012 London Paralympics - Day 5 - Swimming
The UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown, on Thursday, said the world must unite to condemn Boko Haram’s new barbaric and evil use of young girls as suicide bombers to carry out their murderous attacks.

This is contained in a statement from the Office of the Envoy in New York.

Brown recalled that there were three attacks over the past week where girls were used as suicide bombers.

He said that, in contravention of international law, children were now being used as easy targets by Boko Haram.

Brown said they were also exploited as slaves and sex objects and deployed as suicide bombers.

He stressed that “as we approach the first anniversary of the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian girls from their Chibok school, we must resolve to do more against Boko Haram.

“We must ensure that children are better protected by supporting President Goodluck Jonathan‘s Safe School Initiative.

“It is time for the whole world to condemn Boko Haram’s evil use of young girls as suicide bombers to carry out their murderous attacks.

“These children have been exploited and abused.

“We must do everything in our power to protect others who might be forced into becoming suicide bombers committing even more violent and shocking atrocities.

“As we approach the first anniversary of the kidnapping of the Chibok girls from their school, we must resolve to do more to ensure children are in safe schools and not victims of senseless acts of war.’’
