Top 10 most shocking moments From 'Game of Thrones'

In honor of three seasons of plot twists, unexpected beheadings and epic slaps, we rounded up the top 10 Game of Thrones moments so far. Count down with us as we look back at everything that led up to season three's conclusion.

10. Sam Tarly Kills the White Walker

The White Walkers have had their fair share of shocking moments in the show's run, but what made this moment especially surprising was that Sam — who hadn't been much of a fighter before this — was the one to take down this ice monster.

9. Dany's Breakfast of Champions

Dany proved her worth to the Dothraki, and the show proved that eating a horse heart with your bare hands looks just as disgusting as you think it does.

8. The Night's Watch Mutiny

Proving yet again that honor is no guarantee of survival, Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, was killed by his own men in a brutal mutiny north of the Wall.

7. Melisandre's Creepy Shadow Baby

With the exception of Dany's dragons and the occasional snow zombie, there was very little "magic" in Thrones in season one. That all changed when we met the Red Sorceress who gives birth to evil demons.

6. Jaime Lannister Gives Locke a Hand

Just when Jaime was starting to redeem himself via a buddy-cop plot with Brienne, he went and got his hand chopped off in a moment no one saw coming. Jaime has had to adjust to losing the one thing he believed made him great: his ability as a swordsman.

5.Theon Greyjoy Takes Over Winterfell

In season two, Theon returned to Winterfell to seize it from the Starks. Although it was later revealed that they were alive, Theon also staged the murder of his foster brothers, Bran and Rickon.

4. Mother of Dragons

While most viewers probably saw this development coming, there's no denying that it's one of the most satisfying moments of the entire series.

3. Bran Stark’s Defenestration

All the way back in the first episode, Bran witnessed incest between twin siblings Cersei and Jaime Lannister. The young boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time, so Jaime threw him out of the window. The series would go on to become even more insane, but this moment still deserves a spot in the top five most shocking moments.

2. Ned Stark’s Execution

While the body count was higher at the Red Wedding, the decapitation of Ned Stark remains Game of Thrones' most shocking moment yet. This was the moment that set the tone for the genre-defying television epic that Thrones would become. And even though the show has at least one more season to top this moment, we're not sure that it can.

1. The Red Wedding

The pain from this stunning sequence is still too recent to talk about. Not one, but three main characters lost their lives.
