Canadian Ice Hockey star, Colby Cave has died at the age of 25 after suffering a brain bleed. His family confirmed his death in a statement after the Edmonton Oilers forward died on Saturday. "It is with great sadness to share the news that our Colby Cave passed away early this morning," Cave's wife, Emily, wrote in a statement. "Both our families are in shock but know our Colby was loved dearly by us, his family and friends, the entire hockey community, and many more. We thank everyone for their prayers during this difficult time."

According to CBS Sport, Cave was airlifted to the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto on Tuesday after suffering a brain bleed overnight. It was discovered that a colloid cyst was putting pressure on his brain and he underwent emergency surgery before being placed in a medically induced coma in the hospital's critical care unit.  The National Hockey League has mourned the heartbreaking passing of Colby Cave, whose life and hockey career was cut shot.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement. "An earnest and hardworking player, he was admired by his teammates and coaches. More important, he was a warm and generous person who was well-liked by all those fortunate enough to know him." Cave, a native of North Battleford, played 67 career NHL games with Edmonton and the Boston Bruins, who signed him as a free agent in 2015.

Canadian supermodel, Winnie Harlow, made her debut at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on Thursday, becoming the first model with vitiligo to walk the runway for the lingerie giant.

The 24-year-old and girlfriend of American rapper Wiz Khalifa stormed the runway in a pink underwear set with feather detail and shimmery silver camisole.

'I have to admit, my nerves are a little bit higher than they usually are,' she told People before the show.

'I’ve cried a lot but mostly tears of happiness. This is the first major show I’ve done that will be broadcasted across the world on TV, which raises the stakes big time.

'But I’m more excited than anything else,' she explained.

Though Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have denied being married, it has now been revealed that they actually tied the knot last month in New York City but chose to lie about it.

The young lovebirds got married the same day they got their marriage license at the courthouse.

For the wedding, their preacher was Jeffrey Quinn, a member of the faculty at Nyack College near the courthouse. The witness was Josh Mehl, a friend of Justin's who attends Churchome in Los Angeles.

Justin and Hailey both reached out to lawyers for a prenup on the very same day they got married, but there was no way to get a prenup drafted and signed that quickly. So, they got married without a prenup and there's been no move to have one drafted now.

One source said Justin is so in love he doesn't see the need for a prenup even though his net worth is estimated at $250 million and Hailey is reportedly worth a couple of million.

TMZ reports that the couple still plan to have a formal ceremony, but it would be a ceremony in name only because they are already husband and wife. 

Canadian Woman Awarded Nobel Prize Laurel

Donna Strickland, an associate professor at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, on Tuesday became the first woman in 55 years and the third ever to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, sharing it with an American scientist and another from France for their work in laser physics.

The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences on Tuesday said half the $1.28-million Cdn prize goes to Arthur Ashkin of the United States, and the other half will be shared by Strickland and Gérard Mourou.

The academy said Ashkin, who is the oldest person ever named as a laureate at 96, developed "optical tweezers" that can grab tiny particles such as viruses without damaging them.

Strickland, 59, and Mourou, 74, separately helped develop short and intense laser pulses that have "opened up new areas of research and led to broad industrial and medical applications," it said.

Their discoveries became the standard for high-intensity lasers used in millions of corrective eye surgeries every year, among other applications.

Strickland is the first female Nobel laureate to be named in three years and is only the third woman winning in physics: Marie Curie earned the award in 1903 and Maria Goeppert Mayer in 1963.

"Obviously we need to celebrate women physicists, because we're out there. And hopefully in time it'll start to move forward at a faster rate, maybe," Strickland said in a phone call with the academy after the prize announcement.

Lottery Winner Breast Cancer Patient Finally Pass On

Diane Bishop, a woman whose story touched hearts across the country, died Tuesday. Her family posted the news to Facebook.

Bishop, who had stage 4 breast cancer, made headlines in November when she won the Super Set For Life lottery.

Before winning the prize, she had been running a Needs Convenience store in Mount Pearl, where she was the franchisee.

A single mother of two sons in their 20s, Bishop told CBC News in October that she couldn't afford to stop working, despite her cancer spreading to her pelvic bone and lung, and her daily battles with bone and joint pain, nausea, headaches and severe fatigue from chemotherapy.

His grand adventure started 23 years ago, while he was looking down from a mountain in British Columbia. He told CTV Your Morning he had always been fascinated by ecosystems and was inspired to explore new ones.

“I’d seen what I could see across Canada and the States, but I was really curious about jungles, maybe the Himalaya Mountains and things like that,” said Bown, who says he first began his vagabond lifestyle to see different kinds of animals. “But then I found out that people, if anything, were actually more interesting.”

Through his travels Bown picked up a trick or two. For example, a khaki shirt with a lot of pockets is helpful for impersonating officials.

Since news broke that Hugh Hefner, founder and editor of Playboy magazine, died Wednesday night at the age of 91 fans called him a “cultural icon,” and “media titan,” while critics hesitated to mourn a man they said embodied “male entitlement.”

Oakville resident Julie McLeod remembers him another way: as a kind, gracious host.

Hefner was well-known as a radical hedonist who played a major role in bringing sex into the mainstream of American media — a legacy that’s brought him both praise and derision.

McLeod, a former model and actress, was living in a hotel in Los Angeles in 1984 when her friend and fellow model Carrie Leigh — then Hefner’s girlfriend — invited her to stay at his famed home instead.

“I was a young woman so I was apprehensive,” McLeod told the Star on Thursday, nodding to the controversy surrounding Hefner that he made his living largely off women’s sexuality.

“There are a lot of people that will presume I must have been a playmate and it must have been wild. That was contrary to my experience.”

Canadian Ships Involved in a Massive Cocaine Bust

The U.S. Coast Guard says Canadian ships were involved in a massive cocaine bust in international waters over a 26-day period.

The agency plans a 10 a.m. news conference at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to discuss the interdiction of approximately 16 tons (14.51 metric tons) of cocaine.

The drugs have a wholesale value of US$420 million ($562 million).

In a news release, the agency says the drugs were seized along Central and South America by Coast Guard and Canadian ships sailing with an embarked Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment team.

It consisted of 17 separate suspected drug smuggling vessel interdictions.

Karim Baratov, 22 Year Old Canadian At the Center of Russia Hacks

One of the alleged perpetrators involved in the massive Yahoo hack that compromised as many as 500 million user accounts purported to be a luxury car aficionado and claimed to have made his first million at the tender age of 15.

According to a federal indictment, 22-year-old Karim Baratov — a Canadian citizen born in Kazakhstan — was used by Russian intelligence officers to gain “access to individual user accounts at Google and other providers (but not Yahoo)” and paid a bounty for providing them with the account passwords. The information was then allegedly used to hack into the email accounts of various political and business leaders in Russia and the United States.

Baratov was arrested in Hamilton, Ontario on Tuesday, the same day U.S. officials indicted two Russian spies and Alexsay Belan, a notorious cybercriminal, who has been wanted for more than four years, and has been arrested before.

Classmates recalled that Baratov began driving flashy cars and wearing expensive clothes in high school.

Canadian Imprisoned in North Korea Gets Audience With Ambassador

A Canadian pastor serving a life sentence in North Korea has been allowed to meet with the Swedish ambassador in Pyongyang and telephone his family.

Hyeon Soo Lim, a pastor with the Light Korean Presbyterian Church of Mississauga, Ont., was sentenced in December 2015 by a North Korean court to life in prison with hard labour for what it called crimes against the state.

Swedish Ambassador Torkel Stiernlof says he met Lim for 40 minutes last week. He said they discussed Lim's health and other matters, but refused to comment further.

The ambassador said in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday that he and Lim "weren't rushed."

He said there were two North Korean officials in civilian clothes and an official photographer present throughout the meeting, which was held in a conference room at a Pyongyang hotel.

RIP Alan Thicke, Veteran Canadian Singer, Songwriter and Actor

Alan Thicke, a Canadian singer, songwriter and actor best remembered for his portrayal of a father who was the ultimate suburban middlebrow dispenser of advice to his children on the television sitcom “Growing Pains,” died on Tuesday. He was 69.

His death was confirmed by the talent agent Nigel Mikoski, who represented Mr. Thicke. He died of a heart attack, Carleen Donovan, a publicist for one of his sons, the singer and songwriter Robin Thicke, said in an email.

Mr. Thicke had a genial warmth that he projected across all of his television work, most memorably on “Growing Pains,” which ran from 1985 to 1992. He played a psychiatrist, Dr. Jason Seaver, a classic 1980s formulation of the reassuring father, and solved everyone’s problems with a warm homily by the end of each 30-minute episode.

Canadian Singer Michael Bublé 3yr Old Diagnosed with Cancer

Canadian singer, songwriter, actor and record producer Michael Bublé and his wife are confirming their toddler, Noah, is getting treatment for cancer.

Michael and Luisana said they were devastated by his recent diagnosis and would be "suspending professional activities for now" to focus their time and attention on the 3-year-old.

According to reports in Argentina, where the family lives, doctors initially thought Noah had mumps ... but when they brought him to see doctors in the U.S. ... they found the cancer.

In their Facebook post Friday morning, Michael and Luisana wrote ... "We have a long road ahead of us and we hope that with the support of our family, friends, fans around the world and faith in God, we can win this battle."

The couple had their second son, Elias, in January.

Canadian Economy in October 2016 Adds 44,000 Job but....

The economy gained 44,000 jobs last month -- fueled entirely by part-time employment, which offset a loss in full-time positions -- Statistics Canada said Friday, raising concerns that Canadians are having trouble securing gainful work.

The result is further evidence that Canada is struggling to create "quality, high-paying jobs," said David Madani, senior Canada economist at Capital Economics.

"Even though headline employment is rising, overall income growth still appears to be slowing sharply," Madani wrote in a note to clients.

The overall increase in employment was driven by 67,000 additional part-time positions for the month, while the number of full-time jobs fell by 23,000. The unemployment rate held steady at 7.0 per cent as more people entered the labour market, looking for work.

Busted! Canadian Nursing Home Worker Charged with Eight Murders

A 49-year-old nursing home worker in Ontario has been charged with eight counts of first-degree murder spanning several years.

Elizabeth Tracey Mae Wettlaufer of Woodstock, Ontario, appeared in court on Tuesday morning.
The victims were residents in two long-term care facilities where Ms Wettlaufer worked and were between 75 and 96 years old.

Police said seven of the victims were given a fatal dose of a drug.

The victims were five women and three men and were all residents of Caressant Care in Woodstock and Meadow Park in London, Ontario.

$3M Jewelry Taken From Drake Tour Bus Found; Suspect Busted

"Hotline Bling" rapper Drake saw the safe return of millions of dollars' worth of actual bling stolen from his tour bus.

Phoenix police recovered a reported $3 million worth of jewelry that was taken from a tour bus being used by the musician and DJ Future the Prince while they were performing Tuesday.

Travion King, 21, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on a burglary charge.

Police say they identified King as the suspect through surveillance footage at Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix.

They then learned that he was already in jail after being arrested for trespassing Wednesday morning by campus police at Arizona State University in nearby Tempe.

Busted! Two Canadian Women Arrested With Cocaine Worth $29m in Australia While On Worldwide Cruise

Two Canadian women 23-year-old Melina Roberge and 28-year-old Isabelle Lagacé, who were on a dream world wide cruise were on Monday arrested by the police in Australia, according to a release by the Australian authorities.

Authorities say approximately 95 kilograms of cocaine were allegedly found in the suitcases of the two friends and another Canadian man, 63-year-old man, Andre Tamine who was travelling with them when they arrived in Sydney on a cruise ship. All three were arrested in Australia.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the value of the drugs was $30 million Australian dollars, which is about $22 million in U.S. dollars or $29 million Canadian dollars.

Canadian Police Force RCMP Shoot Dead Terror Suspect During an Anti-terror Operation

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) today shot dead a suspect in an anti-terror operation in the Canadian province of Ontario, according to several media reports.

Canadian media reports say police had raided a property in Strathroy, about 225km (140 miles) south-west of Toronto and the 'terrorist suspect' named  as Aaron Driver, 24,  was arrested last year for openly supporting ISIS on social media.

RCMP said in a statement  it had received "credible information of a potential terrorist threat".
"A suspect was identified and the proper course of action has been taken to ensure that there is no danger to the public's safety," it added.
