Disruptive Mega Deals As Former Game Changer Yahoo!

Image result for Verizon AcquiresYahoo was once regarded as the “King of the Internet”, worth $125 billion in its time the way Facebook or Google are today. Now it’s being sold to Verizon for comparatively chump change.

This morning, Verizon announced the end of the long process of acquiring Yahoo’s core business for just under $4.8 billion. This transaction ends the independence of one of Silicon Valley’s most iconic pioneering companies. Yahoo’s seventh and final CEO, Marissa Mayer, will reportedly depart with severance pay worth more than $50 million.

The sale will unite Yahoo with AOL, the first web portal Verizon bought last year for $4.4 billion. The United States’ largest wireless provider is betting nearly $10 billion that combining the two formerly dominant websites will give it an edge in mobile content and advertising technology it can leverage across its more than 140 million subscribers.

The whiteboard message inside a PermaCorp room in Edmonton. The company has distanced itself from the statement and it has been erased.
'If I need to find another employee it is so easy.'

That blunt message delivered within a missive from a PermaCorp manager has drawn ire online over recent weeks and has forced the Edmonton industrial manufacturing company to backtrack.
The message written on an office whiteboard at the company that employs about 80 people was photographed and posted online recently.

The message begins with the declaration of "Why you should be thankful for your job at PermaCorp" and then lists off the reasons — including the fact, according to the manager, that they receive a lot of resumes.

100 Up: Twitter to expand tweets from 140 characters to 10,000

Image result for twitter image Twitter's most beloved features is set to change. The company is planning to extend its 140-character limit to as many as 10,000, according to a person familiar with the matter. Twitter’s fans were quick to complain that such a change, expected to be announced by the end of March, would spoil the brevity and speed of the real-time service.
The character limit that forces users to pen snappy tweets could give way to the longer essays found on Facebook. It could transform Twitter into more of a public blogging platform rather than one that is succinct and well-suited to quips and breaking news headlines.

This person said, however, that Twitter Inc. is aiming to retain the look and feel of the user timeline. For tweets that are longer than 140 characters, users will have to click and expand to see the rest of the text. As users write beyond the 140-character limit, Twitter will signal to them that they have crossed the threshold as a way to encourage brevity.

Sarah Palin Facebook Photos Of Son Stepping On Dog Trigger Online Outrage

Reuters
Facebook photos posted by Sarah Palin showing her son Trig using the family dog as a step stool unleashed online fury on Friday reminiscent of the public reaction to the disclosure that Mitt Romney had once driven with his dog strapped on the car's roof.

Trig, 6, who has Down Syndrome, is shown stepping on the back of the family's black Labrador while it lies on the kitchen floor in order to reach the sink. The dog appears unruffled.

The Facebook post by Palin, who was the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, drew more than 12,000 comments by midday Friday, ranging from cries of animal abuse to those seconding Palin's praise for the youngest of her five children.

"May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward," Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

"Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for 'up!', found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone," Palin wrote.

Instagram Deletes Fake Accounts, Kim K, Oprah, Rihanna & More Celebs Lose Loads of Followers

Following Instagram’s latest purge, stars lost a huge amount of followers suggesting that they may not be as popular as we think.

Many celebs have their social media accounts handled by a team of experts who usually buy followers for as low as $30 for 2,500 followers. And on Thursday accounts like Kim K lost 1.3 million followers, Rihanna lost about 1.2 million, Katy Perry lost 300,000 and Oprah said goodbye to 100,000 followers.Instagram users are angry they’re losing followers as the photo- and video-sharing site attempts to weed out inauthentic accounts.

Last week, Instagram announced it would be cleaning house by removing fake and spam accounts -- basically, any profile that does not adhere to the company’s community guidelines. Some of those guidelines include only sharing your own photos and videos and limiting self-promotion and “commercial solicitation” in favour of “meaningful and genuine interactions.”

By day, Ma Baoli was a high-ranking officer in a seaside city police force. By night, he ran a website for gay people to share experiences and on which he spoke under a pseudonym about the pressure he faced as a homosexual.

After several years, the police force found out and told him he could not run a private website that was earning money from advertisements while serving as a police officer.

Ma chose his website, a move that later proved fruitful. His Danlan.org has spawned a Chinese-language dating app for men called Blued that has garnered 15 million users, 3 million of them outside China, over two years.

And last month, his company, Blue City, received $30 million in funding from Silicon Valley venture capital company DCM Ventures. Ma hopes to use the money to expand abroad and possibly prepare for an IPO. He is also considering launching a dating app for lesbians.

How social media can mess up your mental state

It is important to always remember that what you see online is a mere snapshot of someone else’s life. | Istock
Bee Quammie | MetroJessica Johnson, 29, had a love-hate relationship with social media — she loved connecting with people but often ended up feeling bad about her own life.

“Selfies are fun until you start over analyzing your looks,” she says.

“Facebook is fun until you see amazing things happening for friends that aren’t happening for you. It’s easy to measure yourself based on Instagram likes and Twitter followers, too.

“When you really think about it, it doesn’t make sense. But in the moment, it really affects you.”

Johnson is among roughly 73 per cent of adults online who use a social-networking site of some kind, according to Pew Research Centre’s 2013 Social Media Update Project.

Selfie Culture Sparks Rise in Plastic Surgery

15000 Selfie

The Selfie craze is leading to more plastic surgeries in the world.

Ever since Ellen Degeneres broke Twitter with the Academy Awards Selfie and Kim Kardashian-West discovered her best Selfie side and pout, the self-portrait has been sweeping the world, one click at as time.

However, recent reports have shown that the rise in Selfies has also caused an increase in plastic surgeries in the world. According to Reuters.com, plastic surgeons have reported that they have experienced a boom in business with more and more people coming to them to have surgeries ranging from an eye lid lift to Rhinoplasty (nose reconstruction).

One of those cases was that of New-York-based Dental Hygienist Jennifer Reynolds, who was uncomfortable with her looks and never took Selfies or liked being tagged in photos. The 34-year-old reached out to a surgeon to have her nose fixed and now feels more comfortable about her looks.

O Canada, we stand on guard — for your tweets!

The account sparked a host of responses online — many appreciative, some sarcastic.

Twitter user and media strategist Chris Boutet mocked @canada’s first tweet that announced “Canada’s now on Twitter, eh!’’

“Canada introduces itself to Twitter with the most tired cliché imaginable,’’ Boutet deadpanned.

But MissLaVodka enthused in a tweet: “@Canada always in my wee expat heart . . . now also in my Twitter feed.”

Billed as Canada’s voice to the world, the account is similar to the Twitter accounts of 11 other countries including Australia, Britain and South Africa.

Kendall Jenner Ranked The Most “Social” Model

Kendall Jenner for Balmain Fall Looks for Sunday Times - bellanaija - September 2014002
In a list released by Models.com, Kendall, who is a first timer on the list and recorded a rocket boost to being one of the most note-worthy faces in modelling in 2014, ranked the No 1. model with the largest social media presence.

Although there have been many speculations that she may have bought her social media followers to seem like she is more social, she has a whopping 32 million followers on social media – 16 million followers on Instagram, 9 thousand followers on Twitter and 7 million fans/friends on Facebook; that might not think so.

Coming in a not-so-distant 2nd place is Tyra Banks with 20 million followers, 3rd is Miranda Kerr with 15 million, 4th is Adriana Lima with 11 million and 5th Cara Delevingne with 10 million.

Being her first time on the list, being the most present on social media is nothing to scuff at, we just hope 2015 is way better.
