FIFA World Player Ronaldo dumps model girlfriend because she snubbed his mom's surprise 60th birthday party

Cristiano Ronaldo dumped his model girlfriend – after she apparently refused to attend a surprise birthday celebration for his mum.

The football superstar, 29, spent New Year’s Eve alone with his son when Irina Shayk decided not to attend the 60th birthday party, it was claimed today .

The couple rowed and the former Manchester United star – this week voted the best player in the world – decided to end his romance with the Russian beauty.

Her relationship with his mum Dolores Aveiro and sisters Elma and Katia was at the centre of tensions, according to reports in Portugal.

A day after denying rumours he was considering leaving Barcelona, Lionel Messi cast new doubts about his future at the club on Monday.

Messi said at the awards ceremony for the FIFA BAllon d'Or that he doesn't know whether he'll be back at Barcelona next season. He made the comment after being asked whether he'd consider returning to his boyhood club Newell's Old Boys at some point.

Messi said in Spanish that "I am not sure if I will go back to Newell's Old Boys one day," adding that "I am not sure where I will be next year. I have always said I want to end my career at Barcelona but as Cristiano (Ronaldo) said: 'Only God knows the future.' Especially in football where things can change overnight."

On Sunday, Messi told Barcelona's in-house TV channel that he had no intention of leaving.

Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the best player in the world for the third time, following previous wins in 2008 and 2013.

Germany midfielder Nadine Kessler also claimed her first-ever FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year award.

Germany’s coach Joachim Löw and compatriot Ralf Kellermann, coach of VfL Wolfsburg Ladies, were also named as FIFA World Coaches of the Year for Men’s and Women’s Football, respectively.

All the winners were chosen by the coaches and captains of national teams, as well as by international media representatives invited by FIFA and France Football, a French football magazine.

The entire electoral procedure was overseen and monitored by PricewaterhouseCoopers Switzerland (PwC).

The awards were presented on Monday evening during a 90-minute show at Zurich’s Kongresshaus, which was hosted by British journalist Kate Abdo.

Musical entertainment for the 1,100 guests and TV viewers in 190 countries and territories around the world was provided by Swiss singer-songwriter Bastian Baker.

Sepp Blatter is facing a challenge from a 39-year-old Jordanian prince in his bid for a fifth term as president of soccer's scandal-tainted governing body.

Declaring that "it is time for a change," FIFA vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein announced Tuesday he will be a candidate for the FIFA presidency on May 29 in Zurich, where Blatter will seek re-election at the age of 79.

"This was not an easy decision," the prince said in a single-page statement in which he pledged to run a positive campaign and did not specifically mention Blatter. "It came after careful consideration and many discussions with respected FIFA colleagues over the last few months."

"The message I heard, over and over, was that it is time for a change," said Prince Ali, who has been encouraged to run by European football governing body UEFA and its president, Michel Platini.

UEFA could threaten WorldCup boycott to secure FIFA reform

David Bernstein: Appointed FA chairman after England's failed 2018 bid

Former English FA chairman David Bernstein says UEFA should consider a boycott of the next World Cup unless FIFA agrees to "proper reform".

Bernstein was appointed FA chairman in January 2011 after England's bid to host the 2018 tournament ended in failure.

The bidding process for 2018 and 2022 has since been investigated by lawyer Michael Garcia, who complained last week that his report had been misrepresented by FIFA's top ethics judge Hans-Joachim Eckert.

Eckert's summary of the report cleared successful bidders Russia and Qatar of wrongdoing and criticised England's campaign team, and the events of last week have left Bernstein in no doubt "drastic action" is required to sort out a governing body he has described as "sort of a totalitarian set-up".
