University of Dalhousie student suspended for Facebook posts he hadn't seen

A dentistry student who was part of a Facebook page that contained sexually violent content about female classmates was suspended largely because he clicked the "Like" button on one suggestive photograph, his lawyers said Wednesday.

Sarah MacIntosh said she was surprised to learn that her client, Ryan Millet, was penalized for that single action and his membership in a now notorious Facebook group linked to Dalhousie University's fourth-year dentistry class.

MacIntosh told a news conference that Dalhousie University concluded Millet was guilty of "blatant unprofessionalism" and, as a result, suspended his clinic privileges earlier this month based on six specific posts made in the Facebook group.

Nova Scotia has become the first province in Atlantic Canada to cover the cost of a new drug for multiple sclerosis, a pill called Aubagio.

Dorothyanne Brown currently uses a daily injection to treat her form of the disease called relapsing remitting MS.

“It’s sneaky,” she said. “You inject it and then the liquid burns. It does tissue damage.”

Brown is one of the 3,400 Nova Scotians living with the disease.

James Duncan Keats fired as sexual assault case continues.  The Nova Scotia paramedic accused of sexually assaulting a 71-year-old patient has lost his job.

James Duncan Keats is on trial in Windsor for allegedly assaulting the woman twice: once in her home and another time during an ambulance ride to hospital.

Keats was suspended from his job when the charges were first laid, but a spokeswoman for Emergency Health Services says they have since fired him after details revealed in court show he violated their ethical code of conduct.

Canadian Man finds woman with ex-gf's name for free trip around the world

The Canadian man who advertised on Reddit looking for any girl named Elizabeth Gallagher who he could take on a world trip because he and his girlfriend who he initially booked the air tickets for broke up before they could go on the trip together.

Well, he's found another woman with same name. According to Associated Press, he's finally found his travel mate, a lady named Elizabeth Quinn Gallagher, a 23-year-old student and part-time office administrator from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

"It's strictly a platonic trip. It's going to be great," the man, 28 year old Jordan Axani said.

At first the new Elizabeth Gallagher thought a trip with a stranger whose ex-girlfriend's name is the same as hers was "crazy" but she hit it off with Axani after talking on the phone with him for hours.

"It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning but now that I talked to him it's less creepy and more awesome," she said.

She already has a boyfriend though.

"This is totally sort of like as friends," she said. "I have a pretty serious boyfriend. We've been together for a while. We're planning on buying a house and we have a puppy, so yeah I'm not really looking for anything at all."

Nova Scotia is releasing new guidelines to help school boards protect transgender students from discrimination.

The guidelines recommend using a student's preferred name and pronoun, providing gender-neutral washrooms and ensuring access to physical education classes for all students.

Education Minister Karen Casey says the measures are meant to make schools safe, respectful and supportive of transgender students.
