Wow! 53yrs after she died, Marilyn Monroe named new face of Max factor

Wow!  53 years, movie/sex icon and Hollywood's most sought after blond Marilyn Monroe, has been named the new face of giant make-up brand - Max Factor.

Max Factor announced today that Ms Monroe will be the brand's 'global glamour ambassador' and will feature in this year's advertising campaigns.

"The adverts will emphasise the role that make-up played in Monroe's transformation, from mousy Norma Jeane Mortenson to the red-lipped, platinum-haired bombshell which cemented her reputation as one of the west's most enduring sex symbols." MF said in a statement

Marilyn was a Max Factor client in the 40s and 50's before her death in 1962. The money made from the deal will go to her estate. The sex symbol is one of the highest paid dead celebs in the world.

Why does Facebook owner, Mark Zuckerberg, who is one of the world’s richest men, wear the same gray-coloured style of t-shirt every single day?

The answer was revealed by Zuckerberg himself, during a recent Facebook Q & A session, The Telegraph reports.

He revealed that for him, wondering what to wear every morning or what to eat breakfast would be a waste of valuable time that he could be using to look after the world’s largest social network.

She chats with Billboard magazine and she talks about her new album, Adele, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift and being a diva.

What was it like making this album?

I had a really good time. I love this music. I bought most of these records in the original version — I had the occasion to tell Berry Gordy that he owed me a ton of money for all the Motown records I bought! “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Midnight Train,” “Survivor” — that’s one of me and my granddaughter’s favorite songs. Victory, that’s her name. I’m coaching her; she wants to be a singer, and she’s coming along very well. She sang for me on the BET Honors. She’s more of a student right now, and she’s definitely finishing her education. But she has the voice, and she’s a very fast learner.

 

What did Babyface bring to this album?

Well, Babyface brings his savoir faire to every project. He’s a very easy producer to work with, very detailed in listening to everything. But we had a lot of fun, too, a lot of laughter. On “Midnight Train to Georgia,” I was doing some of the Pips moves at the microphone. We all had a lot of fun in the control room, listening to takes and talking about the tracks.

Stevie Wonder denies triplets rumours

The World's 'Poorest' President - Uruguay’s Jose Mujica

He lives on a farm, and his official car is a 1987 Volkswagen Beetle. He donates 90% of his monthly salary to charity. President of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, is not your average president.

It is commonplace to see some presidents of countries living lavish lifestyles, and in some extreme cases, looting their countries’ finances for personal gain. But not Mujica.

He is commonly known as the world’s “poorest” president because of his austere lifestyle.

An Arab sheikh recently offered him $1 million for his Beetle. Mujica is currently considering the offer, and says that if he does sell it, he will donate the money to charity.

Mujica rejected the luxurious presidential residence the government provided for him and instead opted to live on his wife’s farm located on a dirt road outside the country’s capital. They have no domestic workers – they do all the farm work by themselves. The only staff they have are two police officers.

In 2010, his annual personal wealth declaration – mandatory for officials in Uruguay – was $1,800, the value of his Beetle.

Lupita Nyong’o Covers Glamour Magazine’s December 2014 Issue

The 31 year old actress, who was basically unknown two years ago, has now become one of the few African Hollywood actresses that the world has their eyes one.

With a spectacular performance in 12 Years a Slave, her first major movie role, Lupita has bagged key roles in two upcoming movies – Jungle Book and Star Trek: Episode VII.

Also listed as part of her future project is the film version of the novel ‘Americanah’ by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

According to reports, Lupita Nyong’o will take the lead female role and star as Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who migrates to America and starts blogging about race in her adopted country.

Outgoing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Now Battling Pneumonia

The tumour in Rob Ford’s abdomen hasn’t shrunk with chemotherapy treatments, doctors say – but it hasn’t grown either. And now he’s also been diagnosed with pneumonia.

Ford told the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington on Thursday that because his tumour hasn’t changed in size, surgeons are still not able to operate on it. Despite the “bad news,” the newly elected Etobicoke councillor is staying optimistic.

“I see that as a positive and am approaching it that way. The growth of the tumour has been stopped in its tracks,” he said. “It hasn’t grown in seven or eight weeks. It is the same size it was.”

The newspaper reports he’s been prescribed a “heavy dose of antibiotics” to treat his pneumonia.

The Toronto mayor was diagnosed with a “fairly aggressive” case of malignant liposarcoma in September after complaining about abdomen pains.

Malala Yousafzai donates $50,000 to reconstruction of Gaza schools

Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education campaigner shot by the Taliban, has donated $50,000 (nearly £31,000) towards the reconstruction of schools in Gaza, The UK Guardian reports.

The Nobel peace prize winner, speaking after receiving the World Children’s Prize for the rights of the child in Marienfred, Sweden, on Wednesday, said the money would be channelled through the United Nations relief agency UNRWA to help rebuild 65 schools in the Palestinian territory.

Malala, who now lives in the UK and has her own fund to help small-scale organisations in a number of countries, including Pakistan, told journalists that children in Gaza had suffered from conflicts and war. The money would help children get “quality education” and continue their life, knowing they were not alone and that people were supporting them, she said.

She is the first person to receive the children’s prize and the Nobel in the same year. The Sweden-based organisers of the children’s prize said millions of children around the world had voted for Malala.

The children’s prize also announced two honorary laureates. John Wood, who quit his job as a Microsoft manager, has spent 15 years working for books, school libraries, and schools for millions of children, through his Room to Read organisation, while Indira Ranamagar from Nepal has fought for 20 years for the rights of the children of convicts to education and to live outside of prisons.

In remarks published on the UNRWA website, Malala said the organisation was performing “heroic work” to serve children in Gaza.

Pope Francis condemns life sentences

Pope Francis has branded life-long prison terms “a hidden death sentence” in an attack on “penal populism” that included severe criticism of countries that facilitate torture, The UK Guardian reports.

In a wide-ranging speech to a delegation from the International Association of Penal Law, the pontiff said believers should oppose life-long incarceration as strongly as the use of capital punishment.

“All Christians and men of good faith are therefore called upon today to fight, not only for the abolition of the death penalty – whether it is legal or illegal and in all its forms – but also to improve the conditions of incarceration to ensure that the human dignity of those deprived of their freedom is respected.

Ryan Reynolds and Rachel McAdams were among several stars caught red-handed on Saturday night, as they were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.

The two "eh-listers" received their honours opposite five-time Olympic medalist and hockey star Hayley Wickenheiser, former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour, members of The Band and guitarist Jeff Healey, who earned a posthumous tribute, according to 680 News.

Canada's Walk of Fame recognizes those who have made significant cultural or historical contributions to the country through their profession, with previous inductees ranging from Sarah Polley and Shania Twain to Wayne Gretzky and Alexander Graham Bell.

"To be here, standing with this group of people, each one of them more amazing than the last, is an incredible privilege," said Reynolds to CTV News. "It's a milestone like nothing else."


The Vancouver-born Reynolds — an actor best known for his performances in "The Proposal" and "Green Lantern" — attended the event with his mother, Tammy. His wife, actress Blake Lively of "Gossip Girl" fame, is currently expecting the couple's first child.

Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq took to Twitter to share the fear she felt when a man followed her on the streets of downtown Winnipeg in broad daylight, asking her for sex.

​"I was in Winnipeg for the ballet, walking to lunch, when a man started following me calling me a 'sexy little Indian' and asking to f--k," the Polaris Prize-winning artist tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Tagaq told CBC News the man started to follow her after he failed to get her attention by telling her she was beautiful. His comments quickly became vulgar, and Tagaq said she had to duck into a shop to escape.

She said she was frightened.

Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai To Become A Canadian Citizen

The young Pakistani education activist who shared this year's Nobel Peace prize will formally receive honorary Canadian citizenship this month.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged to make Malala Yousafzai, 17, an honorary citizen during last year's speech from the throne, but it wasn't until Friday that the government made another public reference to her citizenship.

In a statement, Harper said Yousafzai will visit Ottawa on Oct. 22.

"We look forward to pursuing our collaborative efforts on children's education," he said.

Yousafzai, an outspoken advocate for girls education, was shot in the head by Taliban gunman two years ago as she was on her way home from school in Pakistan.

She survived to become an international advocate for the right of girls to go to school, though she works from Britain because she's still under threat in her home country.

Yousafzai became the youngest Nobel winner ever as she and Kailash Satyarthi of India won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for working to protect children from slavery, extremism and child labour at great risk to their own lives.
