Google Unveiled First Prototype of Self-Driving Car

Google unveiled its first prototype of a fully-functional, self-driving car on Monday, promising to send it for a whirl on its test track over the holidays.

“Today we’re unwrapping the best holiday gift we could’ve imagined,” Google wrote in a post on the project’s official blog page, “the first real build of our self-driving vehicle prototype. “

The death of a beloved actor, quadrennial sporting events, a new smartphone, and a deadly outbreak topped Google Canada’s annual list of the most popular trending search queries.

After excluding routine searches that are entered by users every day of every year — most commonly for Facebook, Google itself, and YouTube — Robin Williams was found to be the top trending search term of 2014 in Canada.

Soccer’s World Cup was second, followed by the iPhone 6, the Winter Olympics, Ebola, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence, the late Joan Rivers, Jian Ghomeshi and the disease ALS, which went viral as the ice bucket challenge spread around the world.

After Ghomeshi, the top trending searches for Canadian people were former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, the late former finance minister Jim Flaherty, tennis star Eugenie Bouchard, and Olympic bronze medallist snowboarder Mark McMorris.

Google and Twitter at war over GreyCup winner

Luke Simcoe MetroDespite the reams of data they collect from their users, Google and Twitter can’t seem to agree on who will win this year’s Grey Cup.

With two days to go before Sunday’s game between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Calgary Stampeders, the tech titans are split on which team will take home the trophy.

Twitter has partnered with the Canadian Football League to give users a custom Grey Cup voting app.

At press time, Twitter users were leaning towards the Stampeders. It’s a tight race, however, with Calgary leading 52 per cent to 48 per cent.
