US Falsely Accuses Toronto Student Of Mass School Stabbing

A U.S. website misidentified a Toronto university student as the teen charged in a mass stabbing attack at an Ontario high school, leading to a slew of hateful online comments against her.

This week, a 14-year-old girl allegedly injured both staff and students in a stabbing attack at Dunbarton High School in Pickering, Ont. Now charged with 15 offences, she cannot be named by law that protects the identity of young offenders.

Zahra Vaid, a 21-year-old studying at the University of Toronto, had been initially been interviewed for a Globe and Mail story about the accused's blog. After that article was published, Vaid was named as the suspect in a post on The Gateway Pundit , a right-wing political website.

"An innocent mistake, perhaps? Not at all," Vaid wrote in a Facebook post.

The Gateway Pundit post was originally called, "Canadian Muslim Girls on Mass Stabbing Spree – 8 Injured."

A Florida-based mom has been arrested for child abuse after beating her middle school daughter for getting all Fs in her classes.

In addition to beating her daughter with a metal-studded belt, 30-year-old Melany Joyce Alexander also made her wear an embarrassing t-shirt announcing her failure.

Ebola Update: Liberia Re-Opens Schools Closed for 6 Months due to Crisis

The Liberia Education Ministry has announced the re-opening of schools which had been closed down for more than six months due to Ebola outbreak.

Benjamin Jacobs, National School Superintendent, said on Monday in Monrovia, that the re-opening which was initially planned for February 2, was postponed by two weeks.

He said this was to allow adequate distribution of more than 7,000 health and sanitation kits, including hand-washing buckets and thermometers to public and private schools.

Ramses Kumbuyahm, Deputy Education Minister, said the ministry has trained 15,000 teachers and school administrators on how to implement health and safety protocols to prevent further Ebola infection.

OMG! Kenya school children tear-gased for protesting against a developer who 'grabbed' their playground

Pupils of Langata primary school in Kenya were this morning tear-gassed by Kenya Police following their protest against a certain land developer who they say 'stole' part of their school's land which is their playground. The land developer wants to turn it into private property.

According to reports from Kenya, the school authority had written to the government asking for help to stop their land from being taken over by the developer but their letters were not attended to. Seeing that their teachers were helpless, the school children decided to hold a protest in front of their school this morning.

 

They however got more than they bargained for as the police tear gassed them, which caused a stampede. Five of the children have been rushed to the hospital at the moment. More pics below

How Come! Dozens of school officials, teachers assaulted in Winnipeg in past 2 years

Dozens of school staff, including teachers, have been assaulted in Winnipeg in the past two years, according to documents obtained by the CBC’s I-Team.

One in seven assaults documented by the Winnipeg School Division in its suspension reports between September 2012 and January 2014 were against a staff member.

In total, 931 physical assaults took place. There were 134 attacks that were on staff and 797 on students. 

“Wow. That's high,” said school trustee Mike Babinsky in an interview with the CBC News I-Team.

“Those kids come to school with so much baggage,” said former teacher, Ron East. “I'm here to tell you as one of those statistics that it's not okay. It just isn't."

The case involves a then-14-year-old boy who caused $48,630 in damage when he attached a padlock to just one sprinkler head inside Wellington secondary but set off other sprinklers.

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick says its the first time ever that a court has wrestled with interpreting the section of the School Act that concerns intentionally destroying school property.

The school district argued during the civil trial that the boy, who The Canadian Press has chosen not to name because of his age, was negligent and his intentional act caused the damage.

California High School Ban "I Can't Breathe" T-Shirts at Basketball Tournament

Both boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams from a Northern California high school were disinvited from a tournament because of concerns that players would wear "I Can't Breathe" t-shirts during warm-ups, the Associated Press reports.

Mendocino Unified School District Superintendent Jason Morse told the AP that the boys' team was ultimately re-invited to the tournament at nearby Fort Bragg High School "after all but one player agreed not to wear the shirts anywhere on the Fort Bragg campus during the three-day tournament."

"Too few girls accepted the condition for the team to field a tournament squad," the AP reports.

The words, Eric Garner's last, have become a slogan for protestors demonstrating against police brutality and racism in the American justice system. After a Staten Island grand jury failed to indict the NYPD officer who placed Garner in the chokehold which killed him many athletes began wearing shirts with the words printed on them during warm-ups before games.

After Massacre Of Innocent School Children Pakistan Declares 3days Of Mourning

Flags are flying at half-mast across Pakistan today as the nation marks three days of mourning of the 141 people, which included 132 children (ages 12-16) who were killed in a brazen attack on a military school yesterday in the northwestern city of Peshawar. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced it was a brutal attack that was regretful and declared three days of mourning for the slain children.

The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) who have claimed responsibility for the attack have also warned civilians to distance themselves from security personnel or be killed alongside them, as they intend to attack more.

Afghan Taliban have condemned the attack by Pakistani Taliban on a military run school in Pakistan earlier today. 126 people were killed, 84 of them children.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, Afghan Taliban said; 

"The intentional killing of innocent people, children and women are against the basics of Islam and this criteria has to be considered by every Islamic party and government."

At least 126 people, more than 100 of them children, have been killed in a Pakistan Taliban attack at an army school in Peshawar, according to provincial officials.

Many children escaped but some are still being held hostage. Hours after the initial assault, reporters at the scene said they could still hear firing and explosions.

Pakistan helicopter gunships hovered above the school but were unable to open fire because children were still being held.

Six or more attackers, dressed in army uniform, mounted the assault on the school for the children of army personnel shortly after 11am. Hundreds were in the school at the time.

Megan Mahoney, 24, was facing 30 counts of statutory rape after being arrested on Monday for incidents which took place over three months between Halloween last year and January 9, 2014. Authorities said that Mahoney, a teacher at Moore Catholic High on Staten Island, had sex with the 16-year-old boy multiple times - including at the school.
