Rob Ford Musical To Go On Despite Liposarcoma Diagnosis

A new musical about Toronto's mayor will open tonight despite Rob Ford's cancer diagnosis — but the creators say they're scrapping a planned party and red carpet.

Producer Brett McCaig says they'll also "dim the marquee" in light of Wednesday's revelation that Ford has been diagnosed with malignant liposarcoma.

"Rob Ford the Musical: Birth of a Ford Nation" has been in previews and is slated to open at Toronto's Factory theatre and run through Sept. 28.

Anthony Bastianon composed 10 original tunes for the story in which a "spiritual guide" leads Ford through the past year of his tumultuous life — including his admitted drug use and stint in rehab.

McCaig says the production will be collecting donations for the Canadian cancer society at each show.

Actor-singer Sheldon Bergstrom of Prince Albert, Sask., landed the lead role of Ford after a nationwide search.

WTF! Kanye West Demands Fan In Wheelchair Stand Up

Kanye West refused to continue his show on Friday night in Sydney, Australia until the entire audience was standing and dancing in physical Yeezus worship. Unfortunately for Kanye's self-esteem, one of the audience members had a prosthetic leg and another was wheel-chair bound.

One concertgoer told the Daily Mail that he addressed the crowd saying "I can't do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s**t." The fan waved her leg in the air and Kanye so kindly continued the show, stopping again when he saw there remained a single seated fan.

Canadian universities tackle campus rape culture after Frosh Week

Last year, students at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax faced criticism after participating in a chant that promoted non-consensual sex with underage girls.

The pressure is on Canadian universities for a scandal-free year after a string of high-profile sexual assault cases and orientation week faux pas over the past academic year spotlighted what some say is a pervasive campus rape culture.

"Things don't change overnight. It's a slow progress," said Bianca Tétrault, officially McGill University's new "liaison officer (harm reduction)" and informally the person tasked with combating sexual assault on campus. "But that doesn't mean we should be deterred from it or that we should stop."

She was hired in April for a one-year contract after McGill students felt the university's response to three Redman football players being charged with sexual assault was lacklustre.

"Universities are a bastion of education and trying to create communities, but are also very much involved in creating and perpetuating rape culture, and it continues to be something that’s very much ignored," said Kai O'Doherty, a fourth-year student at McGill University.

O'Doherty and some other students banded together shortly after the incident became public knowledge to attempt to create the university's first sexual assault policy. They demanded McGill create a pro-survivor policy that provides clear channels for reporting assault and receiving support.

They're now working closely with Tétrault to write the policy and have it approved by the university's senate — a process O'Doherty estimates could take anywhere from six months to a couple years.
The new policy seeks to inject sexual assault information and training into all of McGill's departments and operations.

Celine Dion Suspends Gigs to Focus on Husband’s Health

Quebec superstar Celine Dion is suspending all of her show business activities — including her lucrative Las Vegas residency — to focus on her family and the ailing health of husband Rene Angelil.

Angelil had surgery last December to have a cancerous tumour removed.

Dion released a statement Wednesday saying it has been a “difficult and stressful time” trying to fight the disease while raising three young children and balancing her singing career.

She has also been grappling with inflammation in her throat muscles, the statement said, and hasn’t been able to perform her scheduled Las Vegas shows since July 29.

All of her performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled until further notice. She will also scrap her tour of Asia, scheduled for the fall.

“I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children,” the 46-year-old singer said in a release.

“I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”

In an email to The Canadian Press, a Caesars Palace spokesperson wished Rene a “speedy recovery.”
“We are saddened that she has had to cancel her scheduled performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace,” read the statement.

“Our thoughts are with them and their family and we look forward to Celine’s return. Caesars Entertainment is working with AEG Live on potential other bookings for the Colosseum, but it is too early at this time to comment on any specific possibilities.”

Angelil discovered Dion when she was 12 years old and has closely shepherded her lengthy career. But in June, it was announced that she’d enlisted a new manager — Quebecor executive Aldo Giampaolo, a “longtime close friend” of the couple.

Bruno Mars 'Wows' At MTS Centre, Winnipeg

Bruno Mars performs during the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show at MetLife Stadium on February 2, 2014. Photographers were not allowed into the show at the MTS Centre on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.`
Bruno Mars put on one hell of a show Saturday night, performing in front of an excited sold out crowd at the MTS Centre.

Hitting the stage at 9:20 p.m., nearly an hour after opening act Nico and Vinz warmed the already anxious crowd up with a thirty minute set that included their song ‘Am I Wrong,’ Mars and his six man crew immediately had the crowd at the MTS Centre under their spell.

The charismatic singer opened the show by asking; “Winnipeg, are you ready,” to which the crowd responded with cheers so loud that it sounded like inaugural season under that MTS Centre roof. Not to be outdone, Mars showed that he too was full of excitement and energy, kicking off his show with his song Moonshine, followed by Natalie.

From the second Mars opened his mouth, there was no denying that he was the real deal. People lucky enough to snag tickets to this sold out show were treated to an energetic performance that mirrored the Emmy-nominated spectacle he put on at the 2014 Superbowl.

Drake and Chris Brown Re-Union Performance Gets Cancelled

Chris Brown & his former rival Drake were supposed to perform together for the first time at Drake's OVO Music Festival in Toronto, Canada tomorrow August 4th but it got shut down because of Chris' felony record.

TMZ reports
Chris Brown and Drake planned to unveil their new song Monday in Toronto, but the plan was scrapped because Chris can't get in to the country... TMZ has learned. We're told Drake invited Chris to join him Monday night on stage at his OVO Fest. We're told Chris agreed and the plan was for them to perform the song on which they collaborated last month.
The performance would have been big for 2 reasons -- it's the first time they performed together, and we're told there are veiled references to Rihanna in the song. Continue...
Now the snag.  We're told Chris' people pulled the plug, because they realized Chris could never get passage into Canada.  The country has close to a zero tolerance policy when it comes to letting criminals in ... and Chris has not only been convicted of a crime ... he's copped to a violent felony.

We're told his people broke the news to Chris ... any attempt to make the concert would be futile.

Taylor Swift Cancels Bangkok Show After Coup

Taylor Swift says she is sending her love to fans in Thailand after her sold-out concert next month was cancelled because of the country's military takeover. The American singer will not play in the Thai capital, where a night-time curfew was introduced when the army took over.

Concert promoter BEC-Tero said on its website that the show on June 9 was called off "due to recent events in Thailand".

It didn't elaborate but called the move "a difficult decision for all parties".

The country is under a night-time curfew which is currently being lightly enforced.

There have been political protests in Thailand
"I'm sending my love to the fans in Thailand," Swift tweeted." I'm so sad about the concert being cancelled."

The American singer-songwriter has other performances throughout Asia during her current Red Tour.

On Monday the King of Thailand formally appointed the country's army chief to lead the nation.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 86, officially endorsed General Prayuth Chan-ocha to run the country under the National Council for Peace and Order until new elections can be held.

But it is, without a doubt, the most uncomfortable and awkward dance move EVER.

Here’s why:

1. This generation’s lack of dance skills have prompted men all over to resort to dry humping as a substitute for dancing.

The future of dance looks dark and pitiful.

2. Where are you supposed to place your hands? Her ribs? Her back? Her hips? Are you supposed to just hold them behind your back?

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were inseparable at Coachella last weekend.

The on-again, off-again couple, who also spent time in a Miami recording studio together last week, were spotted looking very cosy despite attempting to go unnoticed at the three-day event in Indio, Calif.

An eyewitness told UsMagazine.com that Selena, 21, cheered on Justin, 20, during his surprise performance with his friend Chance The Rapper on Sunday, and held hands with him as they made their way through an all-access area.
