President of Zambia, Michael Sata, has passed away at age 77.
He died on Tuesday night at King Edward VII hospital in London after receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, BBC reports.
Sources say he died after ” a sudden onset of heightened heart rate.”
It is unclear who will succeed Sata, however; the Zambian cabinet will meet on Wednesday morning to discuss the issue.
The president’s death comes just days after Zambia celebrated its 50th independence anniversary.
